The total number of casualties due to Tropical Storm “Ondoy” (international code name: Katsana) has risen to 83 killed while 32 others remain missing, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said Monday morning.
In a press briefing on Monday, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Jr. said the latest tally does not include newly reported casualties from Antipolo City, Marikina City and Quezon City, saying they have yet to receive reports from local government units in those areas.
Media reports said 58 persons were killed in Providence Village in Marikina City, 25 in Quezon City and 12 more in Antipolo City.
Meanwhile, the initial cost of damages on infrastructure has been reported at P41.1 million while that for agriculture was P212,000, Teodoro said.
The NDCC has also received some P40-million worth of relief assistance for victims of Ondoy, the defense chief said.
He added the NDCC will set up an assistance headquarters at the Ever Gotesco Mall along Ortigas Avenue Extension in Pasig City to hasten the distribution of relief goods to victims stranded in Pasig, Marikina, Antipolo and Cainta, Rizal, Teodoro said.
